A NEW BEGINNING
The New Constitution.
The main difference between the old & the new is that now the Rank & File members of Amateur Boxing can have a vote as to who is elected to the Executive Committee, & also directs that Committee in it’s actions.
Voting Rights.
Under the old constitution there were allocated zones with only two votes per zone, no matter how many clubs or boxers were in those country zones. The P.C.Y.C was also classed like a zone & no matter how many clubs was there they only could have two votes.
The Sydney area wasn’t classed as a zone & allowed each “selected” club to have two votes each. Some were non existent clubs. As a consequence certain officials could be voted in by “winning over” those few city clubs every election.
Gone.
Under the new constitution all of that rubbish has been eliminated & a new system in place. There are no such things as a club or a zone membership. The voting membership is now for each individual person over 18 years can apply for membership & all have one vote each at General Meetings.
Merger.
Your State & National Executives along with our Task Force have met with Boxing Australia recently on the 12-12-08 in Sydney & 18-3-09 in Brisbane, Both these meetings were extremely successful with a real likelihood of League Boxers being able to compete in trials for next years Commonwealth Games.
Join Both.
There is nothing in either of the State or National new constitutions which prevent a person from belonging to both the League & the “Association”
Appeal.
Because of the foregoing we appeal to all persons over the age of 18 years to now join up with Boxing.N.S.W as a voting member in time for the next A.G.M under the new constitution: Providing no one is a Professional
Professionals.
Under the new constitution a definition of a Professional is.
1: A person who is a Professional Boxer
2: A person who within the last five years has been associated with a Professional Boxer or a person who within the last five years has been associated with Professional Boxing as a Timekeeper, a Gloving Steward, a Referee, a Judge, a Coach, an Assistant Coach, a Second, a Matchmaker, a Promoter, a Boxers Manager, A Team Coach, a Team Manager or as some other Official.
New Elections.
Under the new constitution there are to be new elections held at approximately eleven weeks after the 23-3-09
Indebted..
It is now some twenty four years since those dedicated people made a decision to break away from the main body of Amateur Boxing in Australia to form the Boxing League.
Those people simply felt as Australians they must stand up against a “Dictatorship” & their best way of a protest was to withhold their support in order that change would
eventuate. We all owe a debt of gratitude to those thousands of good people that “Stepped up to the plate” & made the sacrifice of not being able to represent their Country. Sadly many of those have now passed away & will not witness this revelation. For the sake of all that passed effort & for our future young people yet to don the gloves we must attend this first A.G.M & cast our vote to end the grip which has for so long plagued our sport.
SIMPLE APPLICATION.
The following is a simple step by step advice on how to become a General Member of Boxing N.S.W with voting power.
Step 1: Acquire a formal application form for a General Member with voting power (form enclosed)
Step 2: Fill out your particulars. There is no need to have a member sign as a proposer & another member as a seconder, on this first occasion: Also fill in the form re.Anti Doping & Member protection policy
Step 3; Send the application form & a cheque for the joining fee to B.N.S.W …………….. Also include any yearly fee.
Step 4. Post to Mr. Arthur Tunstall Hon. Sec of Boxing N.S.W 27 South Avenue Double Bay N.S.W 2028
Appeals.
If your application is refused there are appeals mechanisms now available, & your money will be refunded if your appeal is refused.
Other Forms There are some other forms available if you wish to also nominate for the
Committee & another if you wish to become a Ring Official.
Other Important Information.
Under the new constitution any m ember can see the register of members & also the register of nominations for positions on the Executive Committee prior to the A.G.M which will be held approximately eleven weeks from the 23-3-09.
Intimidation.
People need not fear intimidation because under the new constitution if more than one nomination is received for the Executive positions there will be a secret ballot.
Information.
For more information please contact the League Secretary. Mr. Denis Magnay, or the
Leagues Website. www.australianamateurboxingleague.com
Finally. The Ball is now in our corner. Please do not drop it.
Stop Press:
As this report goes out a report by Mr. Tunstall on their Boxing N.S.W website sets the fees at $250 plus $100. Higher Authorities are disgusted at the tactics by Boxing N.S.W to price everyone out of their voting rights by setting an excessive fee. Higher authorities are now taking immediate action to have these fees reduced to about the National average of say $30 & $20
Denis Magnay. Hon. Secretary
